About the Foundation
The Galt Joint Union Elementary School District (GJUESD) recently received notification of a three-year total grant award for $599,978 from the Central Valley Foundation. The Bright Future for Galt English Learner project places an emphasis on the unique learning needs of every English language learner through three focus areas:
1. Personalized learning approaches
2. Multi-year training for all teachers and administrators
3. English Language Development (ELD) coaching
The Central Valley Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting children who are English language learners, the First Amendment and quality of life in the California’s Central Valley.
“We are thrilled for this investment in our school system to better serve English language learners at every school. The grant award builds upon current personalized learning efforts with a focus upon English Language Development. Grant partnerships include work with Dr. John Shefelbine and Gail Bruce with the California Reading and Literature Project. In addition, Dr. Kenji Hakuta and Dr. Karen Thompson with Stanford University will work with GJUESD for evaluation efforts. We are grateful for the confidence of the Central Valley Foundation to support our plan with this substantial multi-year award,” commented Dr. Karen Schauer, GJUESD Superintendent.
