Family Needs & Services

Community Services

Sunshine Food & Clothing Closet

The Sunshine Food & Clothing Closet was founded as a collaboration between the Galt Elementary School District, five Galt area churches (Family Life Christian Church, Galt United Methodist Church, St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Shepard of the Valley Lutheran Church, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church) and a diverse group of community members. The Sunshine Closet is staffed by volunteers and supports the needs of local families facing financial challenges. It provides free gently used clothing and monthly food baskets to families in need on a referral basis. On average, 100 families are served each month.

The primary fundraiser is the Annual Empty Bowls Dinner held at the Grange Hall. For a minimum $5.00 donation, residents can purchase a bowl of soup, bread, salad, and dessert. We work with local Girl Scouts and high schools to make ceramic bowls to use at this event. If attendees want a ceramic bowl, it will be a minimum donation of $10.00 to eat and keep the bowl of their choice.
